Mathematicians at Work
Our mathematicians have been increasing their fluency working with equations. These activities have included solving for the unknown in an equation and adding with more efficient strategies. We are also comparing single-digit and double-digit numbers (greater than, less than, equals). Our imaginations have been hard at work creating math stories/word problems to match an equation. Ask your first grader to create a math story to match a simple equation--you'll be amazed!
This week, we'll begin Unit 3, which extends students' fluency with using different addition and subtraction strategies, and develops understanding of place value.
