Math in first grade is very hands-on, collaborative and uses lots of different models to create flexibility, and strengthen the mathematician's problem-solving capabilities. Using manipulatives like shapes, counters, dice, number lines, and number racks, students are exposed to many different tools to help them develop strategies to add and subtract.
We also use rotating stations, technology (iReady) and small group instruction on a daily basis, so that we can meet mathematicians where they are.
